It is no secret that catfishing has become a major problem in today’s society. People are giving countless weeks, months and even in some cases, years to strangers promising to be someone they are not in reality. “I can’t believe I fell for it! If it can happen to me then it can really happen to anyone!!” Says this lady who got catfished and wanted to share her testimony. Her name will not be disclosed due to privacy concerns and protection purposes so we will refer to her under the alias gullible. Gullible is a 37 yr old woman who had been catfished by a 9 yr old boy, posing online as famous actor and superstar, Timothèe Chalamet. The fake Chalamet had been leading gullible on for the last 2yrs 11 mos and 22 days (so he was like 7 when he hooked her) . Their catfish-aversay was just around the corner when gullible started to become suspicious of her online lovers use of funds.
“About 3 months in, I began to regularly send him money. He said mother was sick and he just couldn’t come up with the funds to help her despite his successful career! So of course my heart was broken by his situation! I thought to myself, poor mama Chalamet! I gotta help her heal so she can live to see our grandkids! So of course, I resolved to send about 1200 a month.”
She became increasingly skeptical when he began asking her to send the money via Ro-Bux dollars (Ro-bux is the currency used in the online gaming platform Roblox, most popular amongst online male gamers between the ages of 8-18… The max age of players is variable… Oddly, there seems to be a strong correlation between playing Roblox well into adulthood and dying a bachelor). Despite this odd request, Gullible complied and continued to send money to Chala-fake. The truth came to light when she hired someone to find his IP address, track down his real address and show up to surprise him for their Catfish-aversary.
“After I got his address I was like, hmm this don’t seem right, he lives in California not Ocala Florida. But then I just thought, oh well, maybe that’s where he’s filming Wonka! I’ll surprise him on set.”
But when Gullible arrived at the destination point, what she saw was the furthest thing from her world of pure imagination.
“It was a townhouse in the suburbs… I figured my hacker was top tier so this couldn’t be wrong but when I knocked, a woman answered the door. She was just as shocked to see me as I was to see her. But I knew instantly who she was… Mama Chalamet!! So I hugged her and she pushed me off and I was like “I know the cancers hard but you'll push through I just know it... Mom!!”
The truth hit gullible like a bag of bricks labeled DUHHH.
“We was arguing n shit, right? But then this lil boy came to the door and asked his momma for a juice box and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw my face and I guess in an act of impulsivity he shouted “Oh shit, its Gina Pendleton!?” Then he ran upstairs.”
Gullible then went on to explain how she and the mother put the pieces together and realized what had transpired. however, the mother refused to return the money received by her 9 yr old boy, claiming “I’m a single mother and that money did a lot for us, I’m sorry you’re still single and lonely but I can’t give this back.”
Since then, gullible has been trying to reclaim her lost funds. Either that or she’s moving into this townhouse that she funded. Her fight with the justice system has gained some serious traction and has even led to legislation boards looking to form new laws against catfishing. If you are a catfisher, this may leave you with a jail sentence equal to the amount of time you led the victim on.
